Neurotoxins in Maryland

“Tox” is a common term used to describe neurotoxin treatments like Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin. These injectable treatments temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles—lines that form from repeated expressions such as frowning, squinting, or smiling.

Neurotoxins are most commonly used to smooth fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows (known as the “11s”), and around the eyes (crow’s feet). They can also be used for advanced facial balancing techniques like brow lifts, lip flips, gummy smile correction, and jawline slimming.

It works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause expression lines and wrinkles. It does this by blocking the nerve signals that tell your facial muscles to contract. When those muscles are relaxed, the skin above them becomes smoother, softening lines and preventing new wrinkles from forming.

The Science Version (for my fellow skincare nerds)

Tox treatments are made from a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. This neurotoxin works by temporarily blocking the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for triggering muscle contractions. When acetylcholine is inhibited, the targeted muscles no longer receive the signal to contract, which allows the overlying skin to relax and soften.

You may notice it can take effect in as little as a couple of days BUT a full two weeks is needed to see the full result.
